Electric Arc Furnace Weigh System
Originally designed for a Consteel Furnace, the TWS Furnace Weigh System is utilized to weigh and measure the amount of scrap that is continuously loaded into the furnace in order to alleviate problems in determining yield and true metallization.  High temperature load cells are placed in the two rocker bases and allow the scales to perform with a heightened level of accuracy and still survive the conditions of the environment around the electric arc furnace.  After calibration of of the system, a test run of 249,000 obs. of weigh brought in a reading within 400 lbs. of the test weights.
By weighing the entire furnace, a great deal of information is provided.  The amount of heel inside the furnace can be easily monitored and kept consistent along with the charge tons.  It is also possible to look at the weight and data in numbers such as electrode consumption, which provides a better idea of how much slag is being produced.  Overall, it is a phenomenal asset to the steel making operation.
